The University of Texas Pan American (UTPA) Department of Music and Dance invites applications and/or nominations for an Assistant Professor tenure track in the area of Piano Accompanist (F09/10-43) with a strong emphasis in voice preferred.
Appointment will be effective Fall, 2010. A completed doctorate is required for tenure-track appointment and rank of Assistant Professor. Primary responsibilities include accompanying students and faculty, teaching undergraduate and graduate applied piano, solo recital performance, vigorous recruiting in the public schools, and other courses as needed by the department. Evidence of effective university studio teaching and collaborative work is desired. Solo performance capability and desire to perform required. Screening begins immediately; applications accepted until filled. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for continued scholarly activity. Other expectations include collegial participation in committee and service activities.

UTPA is located in the Rio Grande Valley, a river delta of the Rio Grande at the tropical tip of Texas, 75 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and the resort area of South Padre Island. The main campus of the University is in Edinburg, Texas, population 50,000, the county seat of Hidalgo County, twenty minutes from the U.S./Mexico border. Six miles to the southwest is McAllen, Texas, a city of approximately 120,000; just south of McAllen, is Reynosa, Mexico, a city of one million. Tourism and agriculture have long been the two largest sectors of the Valley economy; however, manufacturing is gaining in importance throughout this international region. The area is distinctly bicultural, and many people speak both English and Spanish.
