"The Writers’ Bloc" The MFA In Creative Writing’s Student Organization, Was Given The New Organization Of The Year Award By The Office Of Student Development

The Writers’ Bloc, the MFA in Creative Writing’s student organization, was given the New Organization of the Year award by the Office of Student Development for the 2007-2008 school year.  The organization is comprised of students enrolled in the Master in Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing. Its goals are to foster a community of writers and readers through the sponsorship of public readings and to provide a forum for its members to discuss issues and share information pertinent to the writing life.

The award’s purpose is to recognize outstanding achievements by a new organization and is designed to encourage continued excellence. The winner is selected from a pool of nominees, by a committee composed of faculty and staff.   The committee judges the completion of the organization’s goals and its plans for their continued attainment.

The organization’s officers are Mary Ann Escamilla, President; Cathy López, Vice President; Dalel Serda, Treasurer; Robert Moreira, Parliamentarian; Sarah MacDonald, Secretary; and Shaun Price, Student/Faculty Liaison. Professor José Skinner serves as Faculty Advisor to the organization.
