High School and Middle School Mariachi Workshop with Jesus Jauregui, Author of "El Mariachi. Simbolo Musical de Mexico," discussing his new book, which is a first of its kind! A never before seen summary of the mariachi from its origin in the 18th century, to the modern mariachi and its ample recognition abroad. Product of twenty-five years of historical and field investigation, this work reveals the myths about the mariachi's origins and its roots, and explains why it became Mexico's musical symbol and an element of identity for Mexicans and Latin Americans. Also featuring the Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan and Master Dance Artist Angeles Luna. UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium, Starts at 9:00am and continues all day. |

Ames - Leading scholar in the fields of Chinese philosophy and comparative philosophy, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and editor of the journal Philosophy East & West. His publications include translations of many Chinese philosophical classics, as well as important books on Chinese philosophical thought. UTPA Ballroom. | 08:00 p.m. | Theatrical Performance: Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott Determined to find a heroin stuffed doll they believe is hidden in her apartment, three thugs descend on a recently blinded Greenwich Village housewife. As the trio formulates an elaborate scam to convince their victim to turn over the doll, murder and mayhem ensue, until the young woman levels the playing field by plunging her apartment into total darkness. The climax of Wait Until Dark is one of the most shocking moments in American theatre. CAS Studio II. |

Automated Lighting Shows: "The Art of Light" A Multi-Media Light and Music Show, which is an unrivaled automated lighting program choreographed to music using equipment you might see at national concerts or the Academy Awards! The multi-media presentations will include a discussion of the integration of advanced technology with theatrical special effects. Presented by Amarente Lucero, Head of the Automated Lighting Design Program, College of Fine Arts, The University of Texas at Austin and the Marialice Shivers Endowed Chair at UTPA, 2008-2009. "Sell Your Fear" Conference and Graphic Arts Exhibit, STC and UTPA Faculty/Student Artists: Deals with the broad aspects of fear in the 21st century and how media impacts and informs our culture, ethics in communication and its role in the dissemination of various agendas. |
